Inner Wheel Club

THE Inner Wheel club of Tywyn has had two meetings recently.

At the first meeting, president Mair Worsey welcomed district past chairman Angela Williams, from the Wirral, to give members a very interesting talk about her visit to India.

Angela’s topic was the District Inner Wheel’s charity, ‘Literacy in a Box’ taking with her on her visit a big load of back-packs filled with books, pens, pencils etc for the underprivileged children if Northern India.

The members voted to donate £100 to the worthy charity after her enlightening talk.

The club has also donated £100 to the North Wales Society of the Blind in memory of one founder member, Carys Webb, who sadly died at the end of the summer following Carys and Ray’s move to Gloucestershire.

Carys was well liked and fondly remembered and much missed by members who attended a memorial service held recently in Aberdovey Church.

In the November meeting, following an enjoyable meal in Aberdovey Golf Club, president Mair welcomed Chris Johnson and Rachel Gibbons from the ‘First Responders Organisation’.

They gave the members a very interesting demonstration and talk about their voluntary work with the first responders in the district.

£100 was donated to their very worthy cause.

Club members would like to thank and show appreciation to the members of Bethel Chapel for allowing them storage space for their Race the Train equipment throughout the winter.

Diolch yn fawr.

Rotary Club

ON 15 November, the members of The Rotary Club of Tywyn were invited to presentations by local students who attended one of the Outward Bound Trust courses for young people in the Lake District.

Each year the Rotary Club of Tywyn fund two to three students to attend one of the courses run by the Outward Bound Trust.

The successful candidates are given the opportunity to join groups from different backgrounds and nationalities at one of the Trust’s activity centres.

The courses are designed for young people who spend up to three weeks learning different outdoor skills to gain confidence in themselves and develop greater self-sufficiency.

This year the applicants chosen by interview were Mia Banks and Abi Hinton from Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn.

Each were given a bursary by the Rotary Club of Tywyn and were also invited to raise a proportion of the cost of the course either individually or as a group.

Both students gave confident and interesting presentations supported by excellent photographic descriptions of their adventures in the Lake District.

Rotary Club president Nancy Clark thanked the students for their presentations and congratulated them for their achievements.
