Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Tywyn were once again out collecting contributions for the annual Santa Sleigh Christmas Appeal. All money collected is deposited in the benevolent fund and donated to local and international charities. The Santa sleigh is a very important event in the club calendar that is eagerly anticipated by young and old alike. During the rounds it was very gratifying to see so many children out with their parents excitedly waiting in groups along the route to see Santa, Rudolph and his elf. All children were warmly greeted by Santa and each child was given a small gift.

The collection this year covered most of Tywyn and the surrounding villages of Aberdyfi, Bryncrug, Llanegryn, Abergynolwyn and Llwyngwril. This year the weather was very unpredictable and a number of planned collections needed to be rescheduled. However, all planned visits were completed and the club still managed to raise a very respectable total of £2,423 during the first three weeks in December before Christmas. The Rotary Club of Tywyn would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone in the area who generously contributed to their collection and to everyone who helped to organise this event.

Garden Club

THE club met in Tywyn Baptist Church on Tuesday, 12 December.

A good number of members and visitors attended.

It was an entertaining evening with Penny Budds who made many Christmas arrangements using fresh flowers and greenery from her garden.

The arrangements were given away to the many lucky people who had a lucky door entry ticket.

After the demonstration, Myra Dodds gave the vote of thanks.

This was followed by tea and coffee and delicious mince pies made by Peggy Griffiths.

The competition for the evening was “A Christmas Cracker”. About a dozen entries, with many different interpretations, were judged by Penny Budds with such difficulty. First and second prizes were taken by Julia Wilson and third prize by Jean Westerman.

Secretary Susanna Yeomans gave out handouts on tips for gardening in December.

She also took names for the annual Sunday lunch, to be held at The Woodlands on 21 January at 12.30/1pm.

Payment for the lunch must be made at the next meeting on 9 January.

Katie Pearce will be the speaker, the subject ‘From soil to mouth – growing for flavour’, at Tywyn Baptist Church, at 7.30pm.
