Inner Wheel

THE December meeting was held in the Talyllyn Railway Restaurant when they enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner.

At the meeting prior to the meal, vice-president Ann James, standing in for their Australia-bound president Mair Worsey, informed all the members about the very sad news of the sudden death a few days earlier of member Diana Derry.

Diana, who lived in Aberdyfi, was a very delightful person who was serving as their International Organiser, a position she valued and enjoyed with great enthusiasm.

All of the members will fondly remember and will sadly miss her personality so much.

It was decided that in Diana’s memory they would donate £100 to the Meirionnydd Special Riding Group for the Disable based in Arthog of which she was a helper and great supporter.

At the same meeting they also donated £200 to the Inner Wheel Overseas District Charity 2017/18, namely the World Child Cancer.

At the January meeting, president Mair Worsey retook the chair when they had another change of venue namely Walkers for a tasty Fish & Chips lunch date.

At this meeting it was decided by the members that the Christmas card box and Christmas raffle money of £200 should be donated to Hope house/Ty Gobaith, a very worthy cause.

After a request was made by Pen-Y Bryn Primary School they have donated a further £100 towards some new outdoor equipment for the school.

The Dysynni Paddle Canoe and Kayak Club, a popular new club to the area, have been given a donation of £150 from their funds towards new canoes enabling even more young people to enjoy the sport throughout the year.

The guest speaker was Debbie Ashton from Llwyngwril, the hard working editor of the local magazine ‘Sibrydion Cymunedol’ (Community Whispers).

She told them all about her involvement with the very newsy handout magazine which now produces 7,000 copies every two months and is delivered to a wide area in our vicinity giving lots of local information about a lot of different topics.

The speakers’ donation cheque of £50 is to be presented to the Aberdovey based Mountain Search and Rescue team.

The next fundraising event will be held on Thursday, 25 January, when they will be joined by members of the Rotary Club and guests for a fun skittles evening in the Neptune Club organised by member Maureen Cartwright.

The proceeds of the evening will be donated to the Special Riding Group for the Disabled in Arthog.
