THE latest community news from Waunfawr
WI
There was an excellent turnout of members to participate in the annual general meeting on 5 November in the Community Hall on the Waun.
All were warmly welcomed by the president Jean Ecklund who dealt with the routine business before handing the chair over to county advisor Gay Evans, who guided members through the AGM.
Reports were received from the president, who spoke of a successful and varied year which had welcomed a number of new members; the secretary, Sue Wildig, highlighted county events which members had attended and saw the institute’s increasing involvement in these as a very positive step forward; and the treasurer Pip Chisholm presented the accounts for the year.
Gay Evans commented that, with the finances being sound, Waunfawr WI can look forward to planning the programme for 2019 with confidence.
Election of the committee then followed, and with Jean, who has served as the president since 2013, standing down, the president was the only post which needed to be filled.
Nominations were sought, names put forward, and one of the newest members, Caroline Hotchkiss, was appointed to the post with another new member Suzy Glennister as her deputy.
A very successful AGM concluded with the announcement of an open meeting to discuss ideas for the 2019 programme.
This took place at the home of Pip Chishom on Tuesday afternoon, 13 November, and a good number of members came to it.
Everyone contributed and ideas and suggestions flowed thick and fast.
These were whittled down and the ideas agreed are now being acted on to finalise the programme for 2019.
The December meeting will be on Monday, 3 December at 7pm in the Waun Hall when Enid Walsh will be talking about the work of the Jubilee Food Bank, a timely reminder to everyone that the forthcoming festive season will not be an easy time for a good number of families in this area.
