THE December meeting took place on Monday evening, 5 December, in the community hall. President Jean Eklund warmly welcomed Alexander Hales who talked on, and demonstrated superbly well, the making of Christ-mas wreaths and floral gifts for the festive season.

Alexander is the proprietor of Store 21 in Chalybeate Street, Aberystwyth and is very much in favour of using natural and local materials to create his floral items. He demonstrated a lovely progression of items, including a festive buttonhole, a table centrepiece, a growing succulent bowl and a magnificent festive wreath. All members thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and felt he had demonstrated, with great skill, items which they could hope to replicate at home.

Alexander kindly offered all the demonstration items for the raffle and four members left with festive items to take home. The meeting concluded with Jean wishing all members a happy and joyous Christmas.

She confirmed that next year’s programme was progressing well and that the first meeting of the new year will be on Monday, 9 January, when Anne Wolf will be telling the group about her experiences on an epic cycle trip in France last summer.

On the following Monday, 16 January, members will be gathering at Llety Parc for their festive lunch.

Prospective new members will be very welcome.
