A COMMUNITY stalwart has retired after more than 60 years of public service.

Morgan Vaughan MBE, a well-regarded figure in the Tywyn/Aberdyfi area, retired last week from the Tywyn and District Memorial Hospital Appeal Fund after serving uninterrupted as chair for 18 years

.

For 45 years prior to that, Mr Vaughan served in local government after beginning his political career as an official with the Young Farmers’ Club.

“I’ve served all of my responsibilities now,” the buoyant octogenarian told the Cambrian News.

“I hope I’ve left something the whole community can benefit from and be proud of. I, and we as a whole, have achieved a great deal.

“I’m leaving with happy memories of many happy days and I’d like to thank all of those who have worked with me to get to where we are today.

“In particular, I’d like to note my thanks to chair of Betsi Cadwaladr Dr Peter Higson and all of his predecessors. We’ve not always agreed but we’ve always worked well together.”

Mr Vaughan made his announcement at the appeal fund’s AGM last week.
