An Abersoch man who was involved in a horrendous motorbike accident in Bali earlier this year has spoken out to thank those who raised money to bring him home.

Owi Jones, 26, suffered a serious traumatic brain injury in the crash in July and needed emergency surgery. He is now undergoing rehab at home.

Mr Jones was on the final leg of his journey home to the UK when the accident happened.

He spent a week in a coma and was seriously ill, but now he’s recovering well and wanted to say thank you to the local community who rallied around him and his family to raise over £20,000.

Recalling the accident, Mr Jones said: “I was really looking forward to coming home to Llanbedrog to see my family.

“But I had to have an emergency craniectomy in Sanglah Hospital which meant that a large part of my skull was removed to relieve the pressure on my brain and to stop the brain bleeds. I was in a coma for a week and was seriously ill. As you can imagine this was a traumatic time for my family and especially for my parents.

“Fortunately my friends, family and the communities of Llanbedrog and Abersoch rallied around brilliantly to help get me home as I needed to be medically repatriated.”
