PEOPLE in Barmouth will be running in their own London Marathon along the promenade on Sunday to help a local woman raise money for charity.

Barmouth will be turning purple to help Erin Jones raise money for the Stroke Association.

Erin’s sister Dawn had a stroke at just 40 years of age and Erin had intended to show her appreciation and support to the stroke charity by taking on the gruelling London Marathon.

Erin, 35, who lives in Barmouth, secured a sought-after place to run in this year’s marathon and had hoped to raise hundreds of pounds for the Stroke Association.

Frustratingly however, the 35-year-old recently was informed by her doctor that she would be unable to take on the full 26.2 mile endurance race due to personal health issues, leading to fears that her fund-raising quest was over.

Sensing Erin’s dismay, her gym instructor, Paula Tunnadine was determined that Erin’s training efforts would not go to waste, and persuaded members of the running club to agree to a community relay.

The relay will begin, just like the London Marathon, at 10am on 22 April from the prom, opposite the Min y Môr Hotel. Every eight to 15 minutes, runners – or walkers – will set off up and back down the prom, finishing at around 4pm.
