VILLAGERS in Aberporth are again grappling with the twin problems of on-street parking and vehicles on the beach.
Recent weeks have seen the number of complaints soar – hitting a peak over the busy bank holiday period.
Now community councillors will again be discussing the perennial issues at their next meeting.
Community council chairman Cllr Gethin James said while beach access for boats was essential, something had to be done about cars parked on Dyffryn Beach.
“I’m convinced that the only possible solution is a physical one,” he told the Cambrian News. “We could try angling the flow of the River Howny in order to push sand over the hard-standing where these vehicles park.
“As things stand the county council can only prosecute drivers under trespass laws – and they would have to take out prosecutions against every individual.”
Cllr James added that the community council had ‘flagged up’ concerns over on-street parking on several occasions.
“Since the local authority took over parking matters from the police we don’t have a reactive force,” he said.
“When a situation arises in Aberporth there’s no number the public can call and that’s a serious flaw in the system which is too town-centric."
A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “Parking issues which fall under the remit of the county council’s Civil Parking Enforcement Scheme can be referred to the Parking Services on 01545 572572.
“However, it is not possible for the team to respond immediately to all calls or issues raised."
