Madam,
We are very concerned about the closure of shops in Lampeter: the closing down of Spar, the shutting of the Black Lion and now the closure of the Nat West bank, as well as smaller family businesses. Lampeter has become a ghost town, full of empty shops.
As older residents of Lampeter and its hinterland, we will find the loss of the bank extremely difficult and we are also concerned for the employees who will lose their jobs. With nothing new in town it will be difficult for them to find work.
Lampeter has lost its court house, Register Office and Job Centre in the last 15 years. The consequence of moving things away from the town is inconvenience and now empty shops, hotels and banks.
It is very sad to see a once-thriving market town with a Royal Charter come to this.
We hope that the plans for the return of the railway will become reality and revive this lovely town.
Yours etc,
Merry Makers Women’s Group, St James’ Hall, Cwmann, Lampeter.
