ABERYSTWYTH residents have been urged to support proposals for speed limits in the town.
Ceredigion County Council is set to go out to consultation shortly on a host of proposed changes to speed limits, including suggestions of a 20mph limit in town centre streets.
Cllr Mark Strong welcomed the proposals and said he hoped that they would be supported by Aberystwyth residents as a way of improving safety in the town centre.
He told a town council meeting: “I’ve been lobbying Ceredigion council for years to restrict the speed of traffic in my ward.
"I’m extremely happy the traffic engineers have listened to us.
“I hope the people of Aberystwyth have noticed the work that has gone in to keep the streets in town safe.”
Cllr Alun Williams, the Ceredigion Cabinet member for highways, said the consultation into the proposed change to speed limits was expected to start within the next few weeks.
When changes are made will depend on consultation responses.
