Madam,
Whilst the county council is not directly responsible for recruitment to the local NHS, it does need to ask itself if its complacency is contributing to the problem.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastal areas which should attract people looking for a better quality of life. Yet if someone were to come for an interview at Bronglais Hospital and have a look around the town on the day that the refuse is collected and then see all the empty shops and read in a copy of the local paper that the schools are underfunded with some ‘at crisis point’, why would they choose here?
The council needs to understand that its actions, or lack of them, impact on the local economy and if employers cannot attract staff and if companies thinking of moving here get the impression of a town in decline, then we are in a vicious circle where the council loses business rates and council tax and cannot afford to improve its performance, even if it were minded to do so.
Yours etc,
Christine Daniells, Aberystwyth.
