Madam,
I must confess that I am outraged at the very concept of cancelling the park and ride bus service in Aberystwyth.
It appears that the powers-that-be have entirely lost the plot and are totally fixated on short-term saving whilst ignoring the long-term sustainability of the high street shops and the invaluable service that park and ride provides for Bronglais Hospital.
With the emergence of a greater diversity of shopping opportunities on the periphery of Aberystwyth and the continued restriction of centre parking how can the council members expect to promote town-centre shopping when no-one can easily access the town centre?
Do the current incumbents wish to be remembered as the team that orchestrated and oversaw the final demise of Aberystwyth town centre?
Bronglais Hospital has and will always have serious constraints in respect of on-site and periphery parking.
Bronglais Hospital is an expanding centre of medical excellence.
The park and ride provides an invaluable and essential link between the hospital and its stakeholders, whether outpatient appointments, visitors or staff. It is not realistic or viable to consign the park and ride to history.
I re-iterate, do the incumbents within the council wish to be remembered as the team that not only failed the vulnerable and the needy within the community but also frustrated the attempts of a progressive health service to improve the provision of care to the residents and visitors to Ceredigion?
Yours etc,
Allan Phillips, New Quay.
