CEREDIGION County Council is increasing its response resources to deal with incidents caused by high winds as Storm Barney hits Wales.

The Met Office have issued yellow wind warnings, with forecasts of winds up to 80mph in the most exposed spots on the west Wales coast. They started building around midday and are expected to last until this evening.

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: "The council is responding by increasing its 24 hour response resources to deal with matters as they arise.

"This additionally includes operatives who are trained in the use of chainsaws.

"The travelling public should be aware of fallen trees and flying debris from trees and buildings.

"Non-strategic roads may have to be closed temporarily overnight if required as the operation to remove fallen trees in darkness is perilous.

"Should this occur then resources will be dispatched at first light to remedy such situations."

The Met Office warned: “Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures.”
