Re: Your very interesting article in last week’s issue headed ‘Claims that officers are running council denied’.
Possibly not understood by all is the explanation of the situation given by deputy leader of Ceredigion County Council, Ray Quant, stating that there are ‘meetings of group leaders on a weekly basis’, with his explanation of the situation giving some credence as to the necessity of deviance from the norm to obtain speedy, efficient decisions re the coronavirus pandemic. This I believe is able to be understood by the concerned general public.
However as reported, opposition leader Cllr’s Ceredig Davies and his Liberal Democratic colleague Cllr Elizabeth Evans’s call for pre-discussions to discuss proposals before they came to full council on 16 October last, even if approved, would not in the long run have had any bearing on the proposals, as what does need to also be given priority for amendment is the power of party politics which is now running our local authorities by undemocratic top heavy party Cabinets of approximately eight councillors out of the 42 elected. How can this be democratic in any way?
