TYWYN Town Council has decided to ramp up the amount of scheduled maintenance for the community’s skatepark.
Following a site visit last month, councillors met Chaz Hampson, who maintains the skatepark, to discuss how the park could best be looked after.
The council pays Mr Hampson £1,000 a year to paint and repair any small holes in the infrastructure during an annual visit.
However, due to the age and location of the skatepark, Mr Hampson has recommended he visits the park twice a year to keep the ramps in tip-top condition.
This, he argues, would ensure that he could take preventative action earlier to stop any major problems arising.
He also noted that a new ramp would cost approximately £35,000, should the current ramps fall into disrepair.
Having noted Mr Hampson’s comments, the council agreed to biannual visits to help keep the skatepark safe for the town’s users for years to come.
Speaking on the decision, council chair Alun Wyn Evans said: “The skatepark is evidently an asset to the town and its young people, over the summer the park has been very well used and very well attended.
“It’s important we keep these facilities open and well maintained.”
