Madam,

Regarding your article headlined ‘Row over egg farm for 32,000 hens’, you included named quotes by myself objecting to the application.

I, and by extension the objectors, were portrayed as a bunch of pensioners who are overcome by the emotional prospect of a little bit of dust, noise and the odd extra vehicle passing their door. I can assure your readers this is not the case.

A number of well-qualified individuals have forensically detailed a large number of technical discrepancies contained within this planning application and its supporting data. These would have a very real and detrimental impact on both the immediate and the wider area, including the prospect of nitrate and phosphorus contamination of the Dysynni river, for example.

Much research has also been undertaken by householders in relation to broader aspects of the application and again there are many unsupported assertions and misleading information which will be specifically detailed in an objective manner in their official objections to the planning authority.

It would perhaps have been wise for Cllr Louise Hughes to have waited for publication of these official objections and read them prior to pronouncing her support for the proposal. She states she “is confident that every aspect has been dealt with thoroughly”.

Might she have felt less confident had she sought out further information from the objectors regarding the basis of their objections, particularly from those closely involved.

Finally, her sympathies for those immediately affected by this huge industrial unit are no more objective than my passing comments to your reporter about smelling flowers or listening to birds. Both are emotional responses.

This planning application must be discussed, debated and decided on hard facts and information.

Yours etc,

Caroll Beattie, Rhoslefain, Tywyn.
