A DETERMINED Tywyn town councillor is taking on a gruelling 100-mile bike ride to raise money for charity.

Cllr Harriet Webb will attempt to ride across the width of Wales from Wolverhampton to Aberdyfi to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance.

Cllr Webb, 34, is hoping to raise at least £250 for the helicopter charity as it performs a vital service for stricken casualties across the country, especially those in rural areas - such as Tywyn - where it can take hours for a land ambulance to arrive.

The annual ‘Aberdovey Bike Ride’ will see Cllr Webb, who grew up in Stourbridge in the Midlands before moving to Meirionnydd seven years ago, battle with nearly 5,000 feet of ascents and tackle 104 miles of Wales’ beautiful, but daunting, landscape on 15 June.

The councillor was under no illusion about the scale of the task ahead of her.

“I’ve been training for several weeks now but before that I didn’t even have a bike after mine went missing,” she told the Cambrian News.

“It’s going to be tough but I’m very determined, especially considering that any sponsorship raised will go to Wales Air Ambulance, a charity who does such fantastic work.

“Every week we read about air ambulances coming to people’s aid in the most challenging of conditions so it’s easy to forget that they run entirely on charitable donations.

“Who knows, there’s every chance I’ll be needing their services by the time I get to Welshpool!”
