The nominees have been announced for the 28th British Academy Cymru Awards and there are three Ceredigion connections to this year’s list.
The winners of the Welsh BAFTAs will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Cardiff on Sunday and amongst those hoping to take home an award will be screenwriter Fflur Dafydd, from Llandysul, and Aberystwyth actor Tom Cullen.
And overseeing the event at St David’s Hall is BAFTA Cymru director and Aberystwyth University graduate Hannah Raybould.
Fflur, who also studied at Aberystwyth University, has been nominated for Best Writer for the TV series 35 Awr.
The 41-year-old is the only woman to have been nominated in this category and will go up against Andrew Davies for Les Misérables, Owen Sheers for NHS To Provide All People and Russell T Davies for A Very English Scandal.
Tom has turned director and writer to make Pink Wall which has been nominated in the Feature/Television Film category.
It will go up against Welsh-language music travelogue Anorac and coming-of-age tale Last Summer.
Fflur, who has been nominated for previous productions, is delighted to have been named once again, and is looking forward to the red carpet event.
“It’s great to get recognition for all the hard work,” she said.
“35 Awr is not a conventional drama, and it’s up against some big-budget productions like Les Mis and A Very English Scandal.
“I will definitely be going to the awards. It’s nice to be there, especially for a personal nomination.”
Fflur studied English literature at Aberystwyth in the late 1990s and crossed paths with BAFTA Cymru director Hannah who did an MA at the Theatre, Film and Television Studies department at the same time.
“I loved my time in Aberystwyth,” said Hannah, “and I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if I hadn’t gone there.”
The ceremony will be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
