AN ABERYSTWYTH couple have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party at the place they first met as students.
Alan and Alison Edwards celebrated 50 years as a married couple with a party with family at the Castle Hotel on South Road on Monday, 15 August. The couple first met at the pub while on student night out in 1962.
When they met, Alison was in her first year studying French, Spanish and Italian, while Alan was in his second year studying English.
The two dated all throughout university before getting married after graduation.
After getting married, Alan took up a role as a teacher on the paradise island of Barbados, where they couple enjoyed their honeymoon.
After returning to the UK, the couple had their two children, Gareth and Anwen.
They finally retired back to Aberystwyth in 1991 after spending nearly two decades as teachers in British Forces schools in Germany.
Well-known figures in the town, the pair are both active members of the bowling club, with Alan representing Wales’ over-50s team this year.
Alison works regularly with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in Aberystwyth.
