AN Aberystwyth couple have raised more than £1,800 for charity after scaling three Welsh mountains in just 15 hours.

Mother-of-two Rebecca Rock and her husband Mark covered a total of 24.5 miles each while walking up and down the highest peaks in south, mid and north Wales — Pen y Fan, Cader Idris and Snowdon — last Sunday, 18 June.

And after completing the challenge in just 15 hours — their aim was to finish in under 24 hours — Rebecca expressed her delight at having raised £1,800 for the National Association for Children of Alcoholics.

The charity is close to Rebecca’s heart after she lost her own father to alcoholism when she was 21 years old, as reported in the Cambrian News in February.

Rebecca told the Cambrian News this week how thankful she was to everyone who donated, and described the challenges herself and Mark encountered along the way.

“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who took the time to sponsor us for our Three Peaks Challenge,” said Rebecca, 42, who lives in Blaenplwyf with Mark, 46, their two daughters Phoebe, 10, and Holly, 8, and their pet ‘cockerpoo’ — a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle — puppy Marley.

“We were lucky to have clear views from each summit and the views were worth it. Each mountain challenged me in a different way."
