A WAUNFAWR couple have completed the first leg of a three-event fund-raising as they look to raise vital money for the Ty Hafan children’s hospice.

Clare Phillips and Chris Upperdine will take on three fitness challenges over the next three months, following up the Total Warrior challenge in Kendal with a 10k trial through Coed y Bryn and ending with the Cardiff half-marathon in October.

While they’re targeting good times in all three events, Clare said they were also aiming to raise £1,000 for Ty Hafan after deciding that as well as challenging themselves they wanted to raise money for a good cause.

Claire said: “We thought that we were doing all of these personal challenges anyway so thought we might as well raise some money for a cause.

“I was hoping to raise £500 by doing Total Warrior, but I’m hoping now over the three events to raise double that.

“I’ve got a daughter who’s in her late 20s now, who has had a lifelong illness and I’ve known people with children who are ill and I know what it’s like. I know that it’s nice to have somewhere to go locally.”

Speaking after successfully completing the Total Warrior event last weekend, Clare said: “I’m a bit battered and bruised. It’s easier when it’s warm than when it’s throwing down with rain, but you do need a happy medium.”

She has already raised around £200 and is hoping to add to that ahead of the second of the three challenges.
