A Llyn couple have thanked the organisers of a local tractor run which has helped them raise money for a charity that assisted them through a tough time last year after their eldest child was diagnosed with cancer.

In January last year, Gwennan Jones was about to give birth to her and partner Ilid Japheth’s third child, when they were given the devastating news that their eldest son had cancer.

Gwennan was having contractions as she walked to the children’s ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd to hear the results of Caio’s blood test.

Doctors told the parents that Caio had Acute Myeloid Leukemia and needed to start treatment immediately.

Caio and his dad Ilid travelled by ambulance whilst Gwennan had to stay and gave birth to her third child, Math.

Caio spent six months at Alder Hey and was given the all-clear in August last year, when he got to ring the symbolic bell on the ward, signalling he had beaten cancer.

The Pencaenewydd family wanted to thank the organisations and people who helped them through such a difficult time and, with the help of a local tractor run, they have been raising money for CLIC Sargent and Caio’s school in Llangybi.

Gwennan said: “We are still raising money and so far we have raised £2,600. I also took part in the London Marathon earlier this year to raise money for CLIC Sargent. The community has been brilliant in supporting us over the past two years and I just want to thank everyone for their help.”

Earlier this month dozens of tractors took to the roads for the annual Llangybi Tractor Run, starting from the village school and heading to Criccieth and back.

All money raised from the run will be split between CLIC Sargent and Ysgol Llangybi.
