An Aberystwyth who falsely reported to police that he had a rope around his neck and was going to kill himself has been fined for wasting police time.

Malcolm Edwards, of Parc Graig Glais, Upper Queens Road, appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on 26 August.

The 57-year-old pleaded guilty at the hearing to a charge of causing wasteful employment of police by making a false report that he had a rope around his neck and was intending to take his own life.

A separate charge of persistently make use of public communication network to cause annoyance was withdrawn at the hearing.

Magistrates handed Edwards a fine of £40.

He must also pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85.
