An Aberystwyth man who assaulted his wife told police that he was struggling with anger management issues.

Craig Christopher Woodward, 24, admitted assault on 9 January when he poked his partner in the eye, pulled her hair, shoulder barged her and threatened to break her jaw.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said Woodward was reported to the police by his partner the morning after the assault.

Ms Tench said there had been an argument that led to Woodward, who gave the court a care of address of Ty Cefn, Alexandra Road, poking his wife in the eye before pulling her hair.

She told police that he later shoulder-barged her and said he would break her jaw and would be prepared to go to prison.

After being arrested Woodward told officers that there had been an argument and accepted that he had assaulted his wife.

He said that he had never intended to hurt her and wouldn’t have carried out his threat to break her jaw, but accepted he has a bad temper and has struggled with anger management.

Defence solicitor Janem Jones said Woodward, a mechanic, had been struggling with anger issues and was trying to get help.

Magistrates said they wanted a pre-sentence report before deciding how to sentence Woodward and adjourned the case until 20 February.

Woodward was released on conditional bail.
