A MAN who celebrated his birthday in Aberystwyth got so drunk he exposed himself and tried to headbutt the conductor on the train home, magistrates have heard.
David Lloyd Jones, 28, had to be restrained by his friends and family as he confronted train conductor Gary Cook on the service from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury on Sunday, 16 April.
Mr Cook had told Jones to pull his trousers up after seeing him standing in the train with his trousers and underwear down.
Jones, of 13 Hill View Close, Newtown, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency by exposing himself and assault on Mr Cook.
Magistrates heard that he was ashamed and embarrassed about what happened.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said Mr Cook was going through the train checking tickets when he saw Jones standing up with his trousers and underwear around his ankles.
He told Jones to get dressed properly before carrying on and trying to check the ticket of a passenger who was asleep.
Jones though then approached Mr Cook and started becoming aggressive with Mr Cook asking him to let him check tickets.
Jones then grabbed Mr Cook around the neck and tried to headbutt him.
Mr Cook managed to block Jones but Ms Tench said Jones then tightened his grip before other staff and passengers helped restrain him.
Jones was arrested by police at Borth station, with Jones saying he couldn’t remember what had happened as he was drunk.
Defence solicitor Kevin Williams said Jones felt he had let his family down and regretted what had happened.
Mr Williams added: “My client admits he was a total and utter idiot. This was a total moment of madness.”
Jones had visited Aberystwyth with friends and family and had been drinking spirits, despite not being a regular drinker.
Mr Williams added: “He’s learnt his lesson and I don’t think you’ll see him in court again.”
Jones was fined £220 and will pay costs of £115.
