THE clerk of Borth Community Council has been given six penalty points on her driving licence after admitting a charge of careless driving that saw a passenger in her car hospitalised for around five months.

Margaret Christine Walker, of Mirella, High Street in Borth, pleaded guilty by post to careless driving on the A487 in Chancery after a two-car crash left two people with serious injuries on Thursday, 7 July.

Llanelli magistrates heard that Walker, 64, had been driving in the direction of Aberystwyth when she veered onto the opposite side of the road and hit an oncoming car head on.

The crash left the driver of the other car with serious injuries, including a torn spleen, broken toes, bruising to her chest, pelvis and arms and whiplash injuries.

And a rear-seat passenger in Walker’s car suffered what were described as “life-changing” injuries to the spine, abdomen and pelvic area and had to stay in hospital until the beginning of December.

Walker and a front-seat passenger in her car were said to have suffered “slight injuries”, with Walker suffering bruising and a neck injury.

Following the crash, which happened near the Conrah Hotel at around 3.30pm, the fire brigade had to free the occupants of one of the cars as it was so badly damaged. Four people were taken to hospital.

Walker had entered a guilty plea by post to careless driving and was given six penalty points on her licence. She was also fined £290 and was ordered to pay costs totalling £115.
