A Machynlleth town councillor will appear in court after she was charged with shoplifting from a local supermarket.
Cllr Noella Elliot, of Bryn-y-Gôg, was arrested on suspicion of theft from the Co-op store in the town in October.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Cllr Elliot had been charged and would have to attend court.
The spokesperson said: “Myfanwy Noella Elliot, aged 66, of Bryn-y-Gôg, Machynlleth, has been summonsed to court in connection to a shoplifting offence at Co-op, Machynlleth, on 18 October 2019.”
Cllr Elliot was voted onto the council in 2017 for a second spell. She previously served as a town councillor, standing down in 2015 because of ill health.
Machynlleth Town Council said the authority was not in a position to comment.
It is believed that the town council has not been officially informed that Cllr Elliot has been charged.
