THE long ordeal of a pensioner accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of a relative ended at Caernarfon Crown Court when the prosecution dropped the case.
Heulwen Mai Jones, 69, of Nefyn, was hugged by relatives as she left court after Judge Rhys Rowlands directed a not guilty verdict on Friday.
He was told that medical experts had agreed that there may well have been a complex epileptic disorder involved.
She had been accused of causing the death of 90-year-old Mair Roberts, a relative and front-seat passenger in Mrs Jones’ VW Polo car on the A499 at Y Ffôr, Pwllheli, in July 2016.
The car and a Ford Transit van had been in collision.
Defence barrister Ian Bridge said Jones was very grateful for the work carried out by the prosecution team. She would not ask for costs.
A statement released by the family of Mrs Roberts after her death, said: “The family are devastated by the loss of Mair Roberts, wife of the late John Trevor Roberts, who tragically lost her life in a car accident.
She leaves behind her daughter Deilwen Roberts, grandson Gary Roberts and his family, and her sister Kate Anne Roberts. Mair was a very kind and popular lady loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.”
