A delivery driver convicted of dangerous driving between Llanrhystud and Aberystwyth overtook on a hill by a blind bend narrowly avoiding a head-on crash, a court has heard.
Adam Pike, 27, had denied dangerous driving on the A487 on 4 June insisting that he was not driving the van which was caught on dashcam overtaking a car on the blind bend.
However, Pike was convicted following a trial and banned from driving for a year while also being made subject to a community order.
Prosecutor Helen Hall said that a witness travelling behind Pike’s van saw him overtake a car while driving up a hill and on a blind bend, with Ms Hall saying the van narrowly avoided hitting an oncoming car.
She said that the incident was caught on dashcam footage and that it was "fortuitous that there were no injuries".
Police were alerted by the witness who managed to take a picture of Pike’s van and give officers the registration number.
Pike, of 8 Clyngwyn Road, Blaenrhondda in Rhondda Cynon Taff, told police that he had not been driving the van at the time, but Ms Hall said he had been identified as the driver by a lease company that owned the van.
Watching footage of the incident - which you can view below - Pike told police officers that the incident was dangerous, but insisted he was not driving during the incident.
Probation officer Julian Davies said Pike maintained that he had not been driving and that he was one of two people in the van who had shared the driving.
Mr Davies said Pike had been a delivery driver for five years, but that he had lost his job following the incident.
Pike, who represented himself in court, told magistrates he had nothing to say about the incident.
Pike was banned from driving for 12 months and was made subject to a community order of 12 months and will have to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
When his disqualification is over, Pike will have to undergo an extended driving test.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £715.
