A LLANILAR Welsh rugby fan got drunk and threatened to hit a woman he called “f****** English scum” in a row over parking following Wales’ defeat to England in the Six Nations in March.

Aberystwyth Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday that Karl Crees of Cartref, Pentre-llyn, racially abused the sister of his next-door neighbour after getting drunk watching the rugby.

Laura Parsons had parked outside 38-year-old Crees’ home in Llanilar to visit her sister, who lived next door, on Saturday, 12 March.

The court heard that Crees, who works as a carer, had been out drinking and returned to watch the rugby. England beat Wales that day 25-21 on their way to a Grand Slam and the Six Nations title.

The court heard that, after leaving a note on Miss Parsons’ car asking her not to park there, an increasingly drunk Crees - wearing his Welsh rugby top - confronted her and told her to “move her f****** car, you’ve parked outside my f****** house.”

The court heard that Miss Parsons was parked legally.

Becoming “increasingly aggressive”, he told a “terrified and distressed” Miss Parsons that he would “bite her nose” and asked if she had “ever been hit by a man?”

The court heard that Crees told Miss Parsons that when his wife gets home “she’ll batter you and rip you to shreds”, before saying “you’re not from round here are you? F****** English scum.”

After the threats, Miss Parsons called police and officers attended the scene.

Crees then went inside his home but stood at the window waving a Welsh flag and singing the Welsh national anthem, the court heard.

The court heard that Crees was “disgusted with himself” for his behaviour, which he realised was “unacceptable”.

“He couldn’t be more remorseful or apologetic,” Stephen Welch defending told magistrates.

“Passions were high after the rugby and he was drunk and moody and upset.

“It was a one-off and won’t happen again.”

Sentencing Crees, lead magistrate Huw Williams told him: “Even though Wales lost you should not have acted like you did.”

A separate charge of using threatening behaviour was withdrawn after the guilty plea to racially aggravated assault.

Crees was fined £300, ordered to pay compensation of £150, court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
