AN ABERYSTWYTH woman who couldn’t remember stealing items from a supermarket had drunk for the first time in six years after she missed a family funeral.

Tracie Ann Rebhan, of 96 Heol Tynyfron, pleaded guilty to theft of items worth under £13 from Morrisons while she was drunk on 10 May.

Steve Davies, prosecuting, said a member of staff at the supermarket had seen Rebhan, 43, enter the store and kept an eye on her as he thought she was drunk. After seeing Rebhan pick up a number of items, the staff member waited by the till, but Rebhan left without paying. When the staff member confronted her outside the store, Rebhan said: “You can have this back, I haven’t paid for it” and started dropping items on the floor.

Mr Davies said that while most of the items were fine, a couple were damaged. During a police interview Rebhan said she had been drunk at the time and couldn’t remember being at the supermarket or stealing anything.

Rebhan’s solicitor, Alan Lewis, said that day was the funeral of a family member she was close to, but she had been unable to attend and had been upset.

She chose to drink for the first time in six years, which led to her being so drunk she couldn’t remember the incident.

He added: “She’s horrified to be before the court today. She thought this sort of life was something she’d left behind. She’s told me she won’t be back before the court again. This was a blip.”

Rebhan was given a conditional discharge for a year, but will have to pay compensation of £3.86, as well as costs of £105.
