A Talybont man who breached two restraining orders by contacting former partners has made the life of one of the women a misery, Aberystwyth magistrates heard.

Dylan Erfyl Evans, 44, admitted two charges of breaching a restraining order by sending numerous messages to his ex-wife Karen Evans, as well as sending a message to a man who had been seeing another of his former partners, Sira Curtis, and making offensive accusations about her.

Evans, of Cwmslaid, also pleaded guilty to harassment of Mrs Evans between March 2018 and January 2019.

Magistrates heard that Evans had contacted another former partner of Ms Curtis on 22 March despite a restraining order handed to him after he was convicted of assaulting Ms Curtis. Prosecutor Rhian Jones said the message had made derogatory claims against Ms Curtis.

She said that a second restraining order banning Evans from contacting his ex-wife Karen Evans was made in February 2017, but that he had sent an abusive email to her on 21 January which was followed with a string of Facebook messages, WhatsApp messages and phone calls, and even going to Mrs Evans’ home on one occasion.

Ms Jones said that Mrs Evans had not responded to any of the messages and had informed police.

Ms Jones applied for a further restraining order for Evans not to contact his ex-wife, and said the order stopping Evans from contacting Ms Curtis was indefinite.

Ms Jones said that, in a victim impact statement, Mrs Evans said her ex-husband’s behaviour had “made my life a misery”.

Lauren Bayley, defending, said none of the messages contained any threats, but had been a “misguided” attempt to get in contact with her. She said Evans accepted that he should not have contacted either woman and was sorry for any upset he had caused them.

Ms Bayley said Evans had suffered a serious injury in 2008 that had led to changes in his behaviour and that he desperately needed help.

Magistrates said the case was so serious that it crossed the custody threshold, but said that, as he had pleaded guilty, they would suspend the sentence. Evans was given a one-year sentence, but it will be suspended for two years.

He will also have to attend a Building Better Relationships course and complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay costs of £200.

A new indefinite restraining order to stop him contacting his ex-wife was made.
