A PENPARCAU man involved in an argument with his daughter ended up pushing her up against the window of an Aberystwyth bar, magistrates have heard.
Andrew John Weston, of 21 Maesheli, had initially denied assaulting Kylie Dulson on North Parade on 27 June last year, but changed his plea to guilty after accepting that CCTV footage and evidence from an independent witness showed that he had grabbed Ms Dulson and pushed her against the window of Harry’s.
Rhian Jones, prosecuting, said Weston was with family when an argument flared up between himself and Ms Dulson.
Ms Jones said a customer in the bar had heard an argument and shouting and swearing before seeing Weston, 52, grab Ms Dulson and push her forcefully up against the window, which he said he thought might break.
After being arrested, Weston told police that there had been an argument with Ms Dulson and that he had grabbed her by the lapels and pushed her toward the window to calm her down.
He said that he then let her go, but Ms Dulson continued to shout so he grabbed her again and pushed her against the window, but insisted that he had not grabbed her very hard.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson said Weston had decided to plead guilty on the basis of what the CCTV footage showed and the statement from the independent witness saying there had been some inconsistencies in Ms Dulson’s statement that had initially led him to plead not guilty.
Ms Hanson said the incident had been sparked following an argument when Weston had been trying to move Ms Dulson away from his wife.
She said he accepted that he went beyond self-defence or defending his wife and had gone too far when he pushed his daughter in an incident that Ms Hanson said “shouldn’t have happened”.
Weston was fined £40 and will pay costs of £115.
