A Cwmann fraudster has escaped being sent to prison by magistrates after they found that activating a suspended sentence would be “unjust”.

Dean Morgan Evans, of Dove Cottage, appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on 29 September.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty last month to two counts of fraud by false representation.

The court heard Evans said he had two caravans for sale between June and July 2019 in a bid to gain £9,000.

He also defrauded Hanson European Caravan Transport Ltd of £1,500 for the transportation of the caravans, the court heard.

The offences took place while Evans - then of Masons Row, Aberaeron - was subject to a suspended prison sentence after admitting five counts of fraud totalling £7,997.40 in February 2019.

Magistrates decided to not activate the suspended sentence as it would be “unjust to do so given the time passed” and that he had “moved on with his life, with good references supplied to the court.”

Evans was instead handed a 12-month community order with 240 hours of unpaid work and fined £1,800.
