A JEALOUS fiancée who grabbed a woman by the throat because she thought she was flirting with her partner “saw red”, she told magistrates.

Fay Govier, of Carno flat, 1 North Parade in Aberaeron, admitted assaulting Natalie Parry on 2 December during a night out to celebrate her mother’s birthday, but said she thought Ms Parry was “being disrespectful” in her behaviour toward Govier’s fiancée.

Prosecutor Rhian Jones said Ms Parry reported the assault to police on 3 December saying that she had been out in a group at the Why Not club in Aberystwyth when Govier, 28, approached her and grabbed her by the throat.

Ms Parry told police that Govier had “squeezed tightly” and that she had been struggling to breathe before Govier pushed her.

In a victim impact statement, Ms Parry had said she was now scared to go out clubbing as she didn’t know if she’d end up encountering Govier.

Govier told police officers that Ms Parry had been flirting with her partner throughout the night and she “saw red” leading to her grabbing Ms Parry, but said she thought Ms Parry was being disrespectful.

Govier, who represented herself in court, said she was “extremely disappointed” to be in court after turning her life around after being in trouble previously.

She said that she rarely goes out drinking and wished she could “turn back time” so the incident never happened.

Magistrates imposed a conditional discharge for a year, but Govier will pay compensation to Ms Parry of £50 and costs totalling £105.
