DOLGELLAU Magistrates’ Court is to be axed, despite a fervent outcry from the local population and concerns over access to justice.
In a report released last week by HM Courts & Tribunals Service, Dolgellau Magistrates’ Court was announced as one of 10 courts in Wales that will be closed imminently.
The announcement has been met with outrage from local MP Liz Saville Roberts, who is lambasting central government for showing “scant disregard” for those who live in rural areas such as Meirionnydd.
It is not certain exactly when the court will close, although it will be before the end of June this year.
HMCTS says it will first try and establish “alternative provision” for legal services in the local community.
