A FORMER Cardigan man who confessed to being obsessed with young girls has been told he will receive a jail sentence “in double figures” after he was convicted of raping a girl under the age of 16.
Kevin John Turner, 53, was convicted unanimously following a trial at Swansea Crown Court.
The jury heard the offending happened when Turner was living in Tremain, near Cardigan.
Judge Geraint Walters said he would sentence Turner once a probation officer had assessed whether he was a dangerous offender as defined by law. Turner had already admitted possessing 355 indecent images of children.
Turner, now of Gerdinen Ganol, Felindre, near Swansea, had denied the rape offence. He admitted having sex with her but claimed it had been with her consent.
Catherine Richards, prosecuting, accused Turner of “positively enjoying” giving evidence about how he had sex with the girl.
“What I did was very, very wrong and I am ashamed of myself. But it was not rape,” he said.
Turner admitted giving the girl “poppers” before having sex with her.
Following the verdict Turner was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 8 May.
