A 19-year-old Lampeter man has been made the subject of a community order after assaulting a teenager on a bus.
Red Swift Gale, of Derwydd, Victoria Terrace, pleaded guilty to assault by beating when he appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The court heard that Gale, 19, had been drinking and taking marijuana when he got on a bus to Lampeter in August.
On that journey he left the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, “fearing for his safety”.
The court heard the teenager felt “harassed” throughout the journey, and that Gale had “grabbed him by the chest”.
When the pair got off the bus at Lampeter, Gale – in full view of the bus driver – reached and grabbed the victim’s nose with two fingers.
The victim began to cry and told his dad what had happened.
The police were then called.
No injuries were reported that required medical attention, the court heard.
Katy Hanson, defending, said that the incident was down to “immaturity” and “stupidity”.
“At that stage he was drinking excessively and taking cannabis,” she told the court.
“He realises now that his actions were distressing.”
Gale was made the subject of a 12-month community order to include 50 hours of unpaid work.
That order will run alongside another community order imposed last month for a separate offence.
Gale was also ordered to pay costs of £85, a surcharge of £30, and compensation to the victim of £50.
