A man has been banned from getting behind the wheel after being caught drink-driving twice on the same road in less than 24 hours.
Grzegorz Kopijewski, of Ffynnonbedr in Lampeter, was found to be two-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit on two occasions 16 hours apart.
Dyfed-Powys Police roads policing officers stopped the 30-year-old’s Renault Laguna on the A487 at Llanfarian at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, 29 April, due to the way it was being driven.
Kopijewski was arrested after giving a roadside breath test with a reading of 85mg per 100ml of breath – more than twice over the UK limit of 35mg – and detained until he was fit for charge.
Just 16 hours later, on Thursday, 30 April, an officer had cause to stop the car again on the same road, and the defendant was again asked to give a breath sample. The result was 90mg in 100ml breath – with higher readings given in custody.
He was charged with two counts of driving while under the influence of alcohol, and remanded to appear at Swansea Magistrates Court on Friday, 1 May.
He was disqualified from driving for three years, and ordered to undertake community work.
Sgt Paul Owen-Williams, of the Ceredigion Roads Policing Team, said: “To get behind the wheel with this amount of alcohol in his system after just being charged for the same offence shows Kopijewski’s blatant disregard for the law.
“Worse than that, it would seem he was oblivious to the significant danger he was posing to other road users and himself.
“To be stopped twice and found to be under the influence of alcohol twice in this short space of time is quite simply unacceptable. Thanks to the proactive work of our roads policing team, he will now be off the road for a considerable amount of time.”
