A Lampeter man has admitted breaching a domestic violence protection order by returning to the home he shares with his partner.

Michael John Brown, 60, was made subject to the order by Llanelli magistrates on 20 November, to stay away from his partner John Callaghan and their home at Glan Thames, Talsarn, for 28 days.

However, Aberystwyth magistrates heard that Brown had returned to the home after leaving accommodation in Aberystwyth.

After returning to the Talsarn property, he was there for eight days until he was arrested.

He admitted breaching the order.

Defence solicitor Michael Davies said Brown, as part of the order, had been forced to leave his home and had been staying in hostel accommodation but had to leave as benefit payments he was receiving did not cover the rent or living costs.

Mr Davies said it was Brown’s partner who had taken Brown back to their home because he became concerned about his wellbeing as he had nowhere to live.

When police arrived, Brown and Mr Callaghan were trying to arrange to move a caravan to nearby land that would mean Brown had somewhere to live, but would be abiding by the order.

Mr Davies said the order would have to continue until its original expiration on 17 December, and urged magistrates to impose a £50 fine for each day the order was breached, instead of sending Brown into custody - the only two options for magistrates.

Magistrates fined Brown £400 after agreeing not to send him to prison.
