A TEENAGE girl suffered a fractured wrist after she was pushed by a Penparcau man who was “in the wrong place, at the wrong time”, magistrates have heard.
Anthony Wyn Evans, 22, of 58 Rhydybont, pleaded guilty to assaulting the 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claiming that she was “in his face” and that he had pushed her in self-defence during the incident on 29 November last year.
While Evans admitted that he had assaulted the girl, his solicitor Janem Jones claimed the girl would not have fallen if she had not been drunk and wearing high heels, but magistrates ordered Evans to pay compensation of £500 because of the harm he caused the victim.
Prosecutor Rhian Jones said police had been called to the Angel Inn in Aberystwyth following a report of a female being assaulted.
They were approached by the victim when they arrived who told them that she had intervened in a row between her boyfriend and Evans, only for Evans to push her and cause her to fall to the ground.
Checks at Bronglais Hospital showed the teenager had suffered a fractured wrist and magistrates heard she was still in pain following the fracture.
Ms Jones said the victim told police that she had been talking to Evans earlier in the night when he had made a string of accusations against her boyfriend and threatened to assault him.
However, when Evans saw the girl’s boyfriend later that night, he seemed fine with him and the victim asked Evans why he was being nice to him after what he had said earlier in the night.
He then pushed the girl, who suffered the fracture when she fell.
In his interview, Evans claimed he had acted in self-defence, saying he had pushed the girl to get her away from him.
Defence solicitor Janem Jones claimed Evans’ life had been “turned upside down” by the charge, claiming he had been under pressure and stressed by being on police bail awaiting a court appearance.
She said: “Mr Evans was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He has been punished enough in my submission.”
But magistrates fined Evans £180 and ordered him to pay costs totalling £105. He will also pay the compensation of £500 because of the “significant injury” the victim suffered.
