AN Aberystwyth man who launched an attack on his partner and threatened to kill her wants to continue their relationship, magistrates have heard.
Adam Demianczuk, of 4 Baker Street, punched Anna Malecka, leaving her face smeared with blood, and choked her before she managed to flee and call the police.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said the attack left Ms Malecka with a split lip and soft tissue injuries to her neck and left shoulder blade.
Ms Tench said Ms Malecka had been at work shortly before 9pm on 14 January when Demianczuk, 25, asked her to come home, only for the two to start arguing after Demianczuk accused her of being involved with her boss.
He then punched her to the face, splitting her upper lip and knocking her to the floor before he started slapping her with an open hand on the back of the head, her neck, shoulders, back, chest and face. Ms Malecka tried to get up, but Demianczuk stood on her leg. He then grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the floor before slapping her to the face again.
Ms Tench said that Ms Malecka had a mouth full of blood, but Demianczuk covered her mouth so she couldn’t breathe and then started choking her. He said that if she continued to scream he would kill her, but would let her go if she stayed quiet.
Ms Malecka stopped screaming, but when she got up she saw Demianczuk go into the kitchen and pick up a knife leading to her fleeing.
Ms Tench said police officers attended after being called and arrested Demianczuk. While at the hospital, a clump of Ms Malecka’s hair fell out after Demianczuk had pulled it.
In an interview Demianczuk claimed that the couple had been arguing and Ms Malecka had grabbed him and he had pushed her away.
He denied punching or hitting her.
Defence solicitor Janem Jones said Polish national Demianczuk had been in the UK for five and a half years and regularly worked seven days a week at a meat processing plant to provide for his family.
She said he hoped to be able to continue the relationship and said hearing the evidence had been a lesson to him.
Pre-sentence reports were ordered for 8 March before Demianczuk, who was released on conditional bail, is sentenced.
