POLICE have confirmed that no action will be taken after being handed video footage showing an elderly man hurling what has been described as racist comments at a couple during a visit to Aberystwyth.

Video footage taken by Helen Williams, who was visiting Aberystwyth with her Nigerian-born husband Chucks, showed an elderly man making comments about how the couple “should stick to your own race”, whilst claiming that mixed race relationships “never work”.

The footage, which has been viewed online and in the media, was provided to Dyfed-Powys Police, but a spokesperson said, despite the complaint, no further action was being taken.

The spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a racially aggravated comment towards a 51-year-old woman on 24 March.

“As a result of the police investigation no further action was taken.”

Mrs Williams had confronted the man in a shop in Terrace Road after he walked off, demanding answers about why he had made the comments, but he continued to make similar comments before appearing to threaten Mrs Williams, saying he would “plaster” her.

During the exchange, the unidentified man said he is “100 per cent Welsh” and insists that people should “stick to your own race” before Mrs Williams asks if he thinks Welsh people should only be in relationships with Welsh people.

The footage of the confrontation has been handed to Dyfed-Powys Police, but they have made no appeal for information.

The couple, who live in England, had been visiting Aberystwyth, where Mrs Williams’s grandfather is from, as part of a trip around Wales for Mrs Williams to show the country to her husband.

She said she was disappointed that someone in Aberystwyth would make such comments, after previously enjoying visits to the town when she was a youngster.
