AN ABERYSTWYTH property development company has been fined £1,000 for failing to carry out work on a prominent seafront building.
Morgans Properties Ltd admitted failing to carry out work on the old Deva old people’s home opposite the bandstand, despite being given a notice by Ceredigion council to improve the building’s appearance by 4 October, 2016.
Aberystwyth magistrates were told that director Vince Morgans, who also owns the Belle Vue Hotel and Park Lodge Hotel, didn’t carry out work to improve the appearance of the building because he “didn’t know what direction” he was going in and that he was “busy” and had been unsure whether he was going to keep the building, which had planning permission for three town houses, or sell it.
Defence solicitor Lee Thompson said Mr Morgans and the company were still committed to the full renovation of the property, but were waiting to lodge a second planning application to deal with issues after delays in addressing flooding concerns from Natural Resources Wales.
He said the company wanted to carry out all renovation works rather than just the “superficial” work to improve the appearance of the building that had been part of the council notice.
He insisted that work to the roof and windows is “lined up” to begin almost immediately once the planning application issue is addressed.
Morgans Properties was fined £1,000 for failing to carry out the work included in the notice and will pay council costs of £1,160.82.
