NEW signage in the Bala region urges motorcyclists to treat the roads with respect.
Police officers from Gwynedd South Safer Neighbourhood Team and local councillors have secured PACT (Police and Community Trust) funding to assist a local road safety campaign aimed at reducing the number of collisions involving motorcyclists.
Local PCSO Lona Davenport and Cllr Dilwyn Morgan have been successful in securing funds to purchase and display road safety signs at various locations throughout the region.
The bilingual signs carry the simple message ‘Ride like you live here, not like you want to die here’.
PCSO Davenport at Bala Police Station said: “We’re very grateful for the additional PACT funding and it’s our intention to place the signs along various parts of the A494 particularly around Bala and Penllyn where we’ve unfortunately seen a number of serious collisions.”
“The additional signs form part of our overall aim of reducing the number of casualties on our roads the emphasis of which are targeted campaigns and education around the ‘Fatal 5’ which are drink and drug driving, dangerous driving including unnecessary risk taking, speeding, failing to wear a seat belt and using a mobile phone whilst driving.
“The risk of being seriously injured or killed rises dramatically if a decision is taken to commit a ‘Fatal 5’ offence and I want people to be aware of the devastating effect it can have and make a conscious decision not to take any chances. This is about saving lives.”
