A Lampeter man has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting drink-driving twice in two days while almost three times over the limit.

Michael John Brown, 59, of Glan Thames, Talsarn, was found to have 101 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath while he was driving on the B4342 on 14 October.

He was then involved in a crash on an unclassified road at Penuwch on 16 October with a breath test showing he had 129 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates heard that Brown did not hold a valid driving licence on either occasion and was also not insured.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of drink-driving, two charges of driving without a full licence or insurance, and was also charged with failing to stop after a crash and careless driving on 16 October.

Brown also admitted a charge of making persistent use of a communications network by making a series of calls to the police and ambulance services on 29 October, 30 October, 9 November and 13 November.

Magistrates imposed a prison sentence totalling 12 weeks, although it will be suspended for 18 months after hearing that Brown now had three drink-drive offences in 10 years, with the latest two having high readings.

As part of the suspended sentence, Brown must comply with an alcohol treatment requirement and complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Brown was also banned from driving for five years.
