A LLANON man will be added to the sex offenders’ register for five years after being found guilty of voyeurism.

Lindsey James Davies, 48, was found guilty of planting a camera in the bedroom of a woman at a trial in Aberystwyth earlier this month after he denied the charges.

Magistrates, sentencing on Tuesday following a prepared report form the probation service, ordered Davies to sign the sex offenders’ register and also imposed an 18-month community order.

The earlier trial heard how the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, returned to her bedroom after taking a shower to find a camera hidden in a wardrobe.

Davies, of 3 Wernllaeth Cottages, claimed the camera fell out of his pocket, but magistrates dismissed his claim. The victim told the court that she had returned from taking a shower when she spotted the small black camera partially hidden in the wardrobe.

After taking it out, she noticed there was footage on the camera and told magistrates that she had “panicked” before sending text messages to her boyfriend asking for his help.

She said she left the house taking the camera with her and managed to download footage on it onto a USB stick and handed the memory stick and camera to the police.

Presiding magistrate Huw Williams called Davies’ explanation “totally implausible”.

Magistrates on Tuesday sentenced Davies to an 18-month community order, and a fine of £100.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years, given a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting or going near the victim.

And Davies was also ordered to pay £620 in costs and a victim surcharge of £60.
