An Aberystwyth man has been fined for going walking in the Elan Valley during lockdown.

John McNeil, aged 21, of 16 Queen Street was fined £660 by Llanelli magistrates on 28 October.

It comes after he travelled from Aberystwyth to the Elan Valley on 2 May, during the coronavirus lockdown.

There was a sign at the entrance to the estate stating that it was closed. But McNeil was seen walking with another man on the footpath from Nant Gwillt Church, the court heard.

Along with the fine, McNeil must pay a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
