A Llanilar woman has been ordered to keep her dog on a lead in public places after it bit a jogger.
Elsa Luff, of Hafod Wen, admitted that her golden Labrador retriever Bruno was out of control on Sunday, 9 September, when it bit Sarah Ling.
Prosecutor Rhian Jones told Aberystwyth magistrates that Mrs Ling and her husband had been jogging on a cycle path in Llanilar when they saw Luff, 47, with Bruno.
While they jogged past the dog without any problems, Bruno then ran up behind Mrs Ling and bit her on the hand and on her behind.
Speaking to the police, Mrs Ling said the dog had not seemed agitated when they passed and had not growled or barked as they approached.
After the bites, Luff had managed to grab hold of Bruno’s collar but while he struggled, the collar slipped off.
Mr Ling told Luff to put Bruno on a lead, but she said the lead was in her car so she couldn’t.
Following the bite, Mrs Ling went to Bronglais Hospital and received a tetanus injection and a course of antibiotics.
Luff told police she had owned Bruno for around seven months and admitted that he had bitten Mrs Ling.
She said she had been in a rush on the day and had forgotten the lead that day, but that she normally kept him on the lead.
Defence solicitor Alison Mathias said Luff had been left distressed by the incident and concerned about what would happen to her and Bruno.
She said Luff, who is a health care support worker at Bronglais Hospital, took good care of Bruno and that she had taken the decision to muzzle Bruno after the incident.
Luff, who apologised for what happened, was fined £215 and will pay costs of £115.
Magistrates also made an order that Bruno must be kept on a lead when in a public place.
